ER11 collet — when do you replace it?
Looking for a practical replacement threshold. Hours? Visible wear? Measured runout? Curious what others use.
The 3 mm ER11 collet on my V2-10 has done about 220 spindle hours over 7 months — mostly aluminium and delrin, occasionally brass. Runout measured this morning at 11 µm on a precision pin.
The Penta docs say replace when runout exceeds 8 µm or fretting marks appear. I have light fretting but nothing dramatic.
Practical question: do you replace at the spec threshold or push until it visibly bites tool finish? At €18 a collet it's not a big spend but I'd rather not change reflexively if there's life left.
